Do I have to take the state exam to obtain my license?
ANSWER: The ACA is a designation that exempts a candidate from the state exam for the 6-20 Company Adjuster License or the 5-20 Independent Adjuster License. 6-20 and 5-20 General Lines Adjuster candidates do NOT need to take the state exam to obtain their license if they complete the ACA designation. Public Adjusters have a different licensing process.
What is the difference between a 6-20, 5-20 and 3-20 license in Florida?
ANSWER: The 6-20 license is for the adjuster who is licensed to work with one company (such as a property adjuster for State Farm Insurance). The 5-20 license is for adjusters who work alone or with Independent Adjusting companies such as Crawford & Co. or Pilot – these companies adjust claims for insurance companies when there is more activity than company adjusters can handle – a good example is after a hurricane. Finally, the 3-20 license is for the Public Adjuster. Public Adjusters represent policyholders in disputes with their insurance companies. The process to obtain the 3-20 license begins with the 31-20 Public Adjuster Apprentice License. That licensee candidate must obtain the ACA designation AND pass the Florida State Exam.
